FIR registered on woman lawyer’s complaint

The Ernakulam North police have registered a first information report (FIR) on a complaint by a woman lawyer alleging that she was assaulted by the party opposing her client.

According to the FIR, the petitioner alleged that a Thaikudam native had attacked her for representing his wife in an ongoing divorce case. The accused allegedly trespassed in her house along Vaduthala Freedom Road on Sunday around 4.15 p.m. and assaulted her. The accused allegedly assaulted his wife as well who was at the house.

The FIR was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 74 (criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 329(4) (criminal trespass), 296(b) (uttering obscene words in a public place), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation).

The police have issued a notice to the accused to record his statement.
