The Vyalikaval police have registered a case following a complaint by Congress leader Anoop Iyengar, alleging irregularities in voter records in Malleswaram constituency.

The FIR was registered on October 2, 2026, under Sections 319(2), 336(2), 340(2), 61(2)(b) and 217(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

According to the FIR, the complaint concerns Polling Station No. 157 in Malleswaram. Mr. Iyengar alleged that records relating to voters were manipulated through Form-7 applicationsm resulting in eligible voters being shown as having been removed or otherwise affected in the electoral records.

The complaint specifically refers to 778 voter entries across several polling parts. “It has come to my notice that, even though the voters had cast their votes, Form-7 applications were submitted showing them as persons who had shifted residence or were otherwise ineligible, with the intention of having their names deleted from the electoral roll,” the complainant stated.

“Accordingly, on examining the documents, it was found that, in Polling Station No. 157 under Part No. 64, Form-7 applications had been submitted in respect of 122 voters in Part 157, 233 voters in Part 155, 28 voters in Part 156, 5 voters in Part 158, 47 voters in Part 154, 171 voters in Part 205, 68 voters in Part 203, and 104 voters in Part 153 — a total of 778 voters. It was found that Form-7 applications had been submitted seeking deletion of the names of these voters on the ground that they had shifted residence or were deceased, despite the voters having cast their votes,” the complaint stated.

The complainant alleged that the applications were used to interfere with the electoral rolls and disenfranchise legitimate voters. The FIR stated that a group or individuals associated with political activity were involved in the alleged preparation or submission of such applications.

G.S. Vasanthalakshmi, BJP member, has been named as accused no. 1, while another person associated with the RSS has been listed as an unidentified accused. The FIR alleges that Vasanthalakshmi was associated with the alleged preparation/submission of the disputed applications, but these allegations have not yet been established in court.

The police on Friday registered the case.
