Financial aid to those affected in the Wayanad landslides will continue, Minister for Revenue K. Rajan has said.

Addressing mediapersons in Thrissur on Saturday, Mr. Rajan said any apprehensions regarding the financial support were baseless. The State government had already announced that the aid would continue till the rehabilitation of the affected people is complete, he said.

Rent assistance

Mr. Rajan said the government had spent ₹15.64 crore on providing financial aid. Since August 2024, ₹6,000 each was being given as rent assistance to 813 beneficiaries who had lost their houses and were living in rented accommodation. Nearly half of them have returned home over the months, and the 425 grantees who still remain in rented houses as of December 2025 were given the assistance till that month. ”Reports that the financial assistance had been discontinued were false. The government had spared no expense in helping the people till now. That would not change,” he said.

The government, the Minister said, was continuing with rehabilitation efforts. A total of 289 houses had got new roofs, concrete walls for 300 houses had been completed, and foundations for 312 houses were completed. Besides, construction of the township would be completed quickly, he said.

Livelihood assistance

The government, the Minister said, had also decided that in the case of loss of livelihood an amount of ₹300 a day would be given to two members of a family using funds from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for three months initially. This assistance too was being given since August 2024. Funds were later given for another three months. All those who reached the first camp were given this assistance. Later, those struggling in the absence of a livelihood were identified and assistance was provided to them till December 2025. A total of 1,185 people from 656 families benefitted. The funds for January 2026 would be disbursed once an order is issued.
