The Federation of Organisations and Associations of Mysuru (FOAM) has urged the Mysuru City Police and the Mysuru City Corporation to take action against what it described as rampant encroachment of footpaths across the city causing severe inconvenience to pedestrians.

FOAM President B.S. Prashanth, in a press release, said footpaths in several key locations, including M.G. Road and Sayyaji Rao Road, have been occupied by street vendors, leaving little to no space for people to walk. “Pedestrians are finding it difficult to use the footpaths and are being forced to walk on busy roads, which is unsafe,” he added.

According to FOAM, the number of carts selling food items, coffee, tea, and other products along the roads has increased in recent months, contributing to the problem. On M.G. Road in particular, Mr. Prashanth stated that vegetable vendors have taken over the footpath, making pedestrian movement almost impossible.

He said fast-food operators and other vendors continue to occupy pedestrian pathways throughout the day. Many roadside food units, he added, operate in unhygienic conditions, raising public health concerns.

In view of the situation, FOAM has appealed to the Mysuru City Police and Mysuru City Corporation to launch a drive to clear footpath encroachments and ensure safe walking space for the public.
