A 31-year-old resident of Faridabad in Haryana has been arrested after allegedly beating his four-year-old daughter to death with a rolling pin for failing to write numbers up to 50, the police said on Friday (January 23, 2026).

The man was arrested based on a complaint lodged by his wife at the Sector 58 police station on Thursday (January 22, 2026). The woman stated that her husband, Krishna Jaiswal, beat their daughter to death at their rented accommodation in Jhadsaentli village on January 21. The police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During interrogation, the police learnt that the couple worked in private companies. While the wife worked during the day, the husband had night shifts.

The police said the couple also have a seven-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter. Mr. Jaiswal took care of the children during the day and made them do their lessons, they added.

On January 21, the accused asked his four-year-old daughter to write numbers from 1 to 50. When she was unable to do so, he grew enraged and beat her to death, the police said.

‘Habitual drinker’

Inspector Azad, Station House Officer of the Sector 58 police station, told The Hindu that the accused was a habitual drinker and would often beat up his wife and children.

“When the girl could not complete the counting exercise he had assigned, the accused slammed her on to the floor and beat her up with a rolling pin, leading to her death,” he said.

Following excessive beating, the child collapsed and the accused took her to a nearby government hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead, the police said. Mr. Jaiswal then called his wife, who was at work, and claimed that their daughter had fallen down the stairs. However, she grew suspicious upon seeing visible injury marks on the child’s body and reported the matter to the police, the officer said.

The accused has been remanded in police custody for a day for further questioning, police said.
