Mild tension prevailed at Girupuram Centre in Machavaram on Monday, when the family members of Satya Kumari staged a protest with her body, demanding action against the transgenders who allegedly attacked her.

A few days ago, Satya Kumari and her family members were reportedly attacked by a group of transgenders over a dispute involving her son speaking with a girl in Giripuram area. Unable to bear the humiliation, Satya Kumari attempted to end her life on September 11. She succumbed to her injuries the following day.

After conducting a post mortem on Monday, the doctors handed over Satya Kumari’s body to the family members, who staged a dharna at Giripuram Centre with her body.

The victim’s family allege: “The girl’s family members hired the transgenders to attack and threaten them.”

Police rushed to the spot and assured to arrest the accused who attacked Satya Kumari. Machavaram Circle Inspector Ch. Prakash said that a case has been registered and 12 accused were booked, with two arrests made so far.

Persons having suicidal thoughts or in distress may ‘Dial 100’ for assistance.
