Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday condoled the recent death of Tamil scholar and former Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil D. Gnanasundaram.

“Deeply pained by the passing of Thiru D. Gnanasundaram. An eminent scholar who devoted his life to classical Tamil and Vaishnava traditions. His lifelong contributions to our great epic — the Ramayana, Kamba Ramayanam and Divya Prabandham has profoundly enriched Tamil heritage,” the Lok Bhavan quoted the Governor as saying.

Mr. Stalin recalled the Tamil scholar’s association with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Mr. Stalin also recalled having awarded the Tamil Nadu government’s Ilakkiya Mamani award for 2024 to him.

The Tamil scholar’s death was a huge loss to Tamil, Mr. Stalin said and expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family, Tamil enthusiasts and his students.
