The police on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) arrested a four-member fake Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) gang that allegedly extorted ₹2 lakh from the Registrations and Stamps Department registrar.
The gang, including a woman, called Mogalturu Sub-Registrar S. Srinivas on November 12 this year and introduced themselves as ACB police from Vijayawada. They threatened to conduct a raid, file criminal cases, and demanded that ₹2 lakh be transferred through UPI.
Acting on a complaint, the team led by West Godavari district Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi and Narsapuram DSP G. Sriveda arrested the fake ACB officials at the parcel office at Vijayawada railway station in the wee hours on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as N. Jaya Krishna, V. Ramanjaneyulu, Vanitha and P. Tharun, natives of Anantapuram district, the police said.
