An explosion occurred at Mavunchery Peedika in Pathayakunnu, Patyam, Kannur, Kerala, early Thursday (October 9, 2025), shattering the windowpanes of two nearby houses. The impact was so powerful that it reportedly tore up the tarring on the road.

The explosion took place around 12.30 a.m. The Kathiroor police have registered a case under Sections 192 and 288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and intensified security in the area.

Preliminary investigation suggests the explosion may have been an act of arson. A bomb squad and a forensic expert from Kannur have reached the spot to collect evidence.

Pathayakunnu has a history of clashes between Communist Party of India CPI(M) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers. Following the explosion, leaders from both parties levelled allegations against each other over possible involvement in the incident.
