The Telangana government has notified the re-fixation of wards and the strength of elected members of the expanded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The expanded GHMC covering the entire city of Telangana Core Urban Region will have 300 wards, according to the Government Order (GO) issued on Monday (December 8).

The G.O. Ms. No. 266 by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department follows a detailed reorganisation proposal submitted earlier.

The Centre for Good Governance carried out the ‘Ward Reorganization Framework for GHMC in the Context of the Proposed Merger of 27 Urban Local Bodies’ and it formed the basis of the current decision, according to the GO.

The government, after careful examination of the matter, have decided to declare the number of elected ward members to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at 300, under sub-section (1) of Section 8 read with sub-section (1) of Section 5 of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955 (Act No. I of 1956) and as amended subsequently from time to time,” informed the GO.
