Cybercrimes are on the rise. Eternal vigilance is required to combat them and stay safe, cyber security experts said in Chikkodi on Thursday.

“Cyber frauds are increasing rapidly in the name of banks, digital arrest and online shopping apps. People must remain alert,” AGM and Regional Head of Canara Bank M. Paneeshayan said, at a one-day workshop on Financial Literacy and Cyber Crime Awareness organized by KLE Society’s Basavaprabhu Kore Arts, Science and Commerce College in Chikkodi, in association with the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists and Canara Bank.

Mr. Paneeshayan also stressed the importance of financial protection “Only those who have lost their lives understand the value of insurance. Insurance is not a restriction but a protection offered by banks,” he said.

He also highlighted the growth of Canara Bank and explained its various services.

RBI officer Chetan Kumar warned that cyber criminals use pressure tactics, fear and attractive schemes to cheat people.

“The public must remain vigilant before sharing sensitive information such as CVV or OTPs,” he said.

Principal Darshan Billur said that today’s youth are heavily influenced by social media and often fall victim to online traps.

Principal of BK College, Chikkodi, B.G. Kulkarni said that financial security awareness must increase among Indians. He said that there is a need to start financial literacy early on life.

President of the Karnataka Working Journalists Association (Chikkodi Unit) Rajendra Koli and Canara Bank Lead Manager Prashant Ghodke also addressed the gathering.

Students anchored the event, welcomed and thanked the guests.

Vice-Principal Sudhir Kotiwale, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Sadashiv Hadimani, Head of MCA Sunil Shinde, Head of MBA Sanjay Hanagandi and Vinayak Manjalapur and other faculty members, journalists and others were present.
