Election officials and the police seized unaccounted cash to the tune of ₹6 lakh during vehicle checks at various spots in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts on Tuesday as part of enforcement of Model Code of Conduct for 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The police said that members of a Static Squad Team (SST) led by election officer S. Lakshmi intercepted a car near a police check post at Kazhichur near Katpadi. During the check, the team found ₹2.34 lakh unaccounted cash in the vehicle.

Police said that along with a driver, 50-year-old B. Ravi, a native of Katpadi, was carrying unaccounted cash from a private bank to pay salaries to his contract workers in his pharmacy. As he was unable to produce valid documents, the seized cash was handed over to the district treasury.

In a similar incident, election officials seized ₹2.5 lakh from textile traders near Ambur town in Tirupattur when they stopped their vehicle on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48).

Election officials also seized ₹1.2 lakh unaccounted cash from a furniture trader In Arani town in Tiruvannamalai when he was proceeding to buy raw materials. Cases have been registered. A probe is under way.
