A 75-year-old woman was killed and two other members of her family were injured after a tree fell on their tin-roofed house in Meerpet during heavy rain on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Lakshmi, a native of Nagarkurnool district who was residing with her son, Venkatesh, 30, and daughter-in-law, Lalitha, 28, in Raghavendra Colony, Meerpet.

According to the police, the family was asleep when a large tree got uprooted during the rain and fell on their house, causing the roof structure to collapse.

All three occupants sustained injuries in the incident. Lakshmi suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, while Venkatesh and Lalitha were injured and shifted to a hospital for treatment. The couple is said to be out of danger.

The Meerpet police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
