At least eight people were injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway near Gundrampally in Chityala mandal of Nalgonda district on Sunday.

According to preliminary information, a car travelling towards Vijayawada suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle crossed the median and overturned onto the carriageway leading towards Hyderabad.

Two cars travelling towards Hyderabad then crashed into the overturned vehicle, causing all three vehicles to overturn.

The injured were shifted to the Government Hospital in Choutuppal for treatment. Their identities and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known.

The accident led to a traffic jam stretching nearly five kilometres on the Hyderabad-bound carriageway.

Traffic police and National Highways Authority of India personnel reached the spot, cleared the damaged vehicles and began collecting details to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
