Eight people were killed and seven injured after the van carrying them fell into a well in the Malshiras area of Maharashtra’s Solapur district, police said on Monday (June 15, 2026).

“The pilgrims were returning after visiting Siddhanath temple in Mhaswad in Solapur when their pick-up van fell into a well near Tandulwadi village. A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident and recommend measures to prevent such accidents,” said Solapur District Collector S. Karthikeyan.

The accident occurred around 5.15 pm on Sunday (June 14, 2026). According to the police, the driver lost control and the van fell into the well along the road.

The deceased are identified as Pooja Satore (23), Pooja Bawache (27), Indubai Bawache (60), Ashwini Bawache (27), Aarav Anil Satore (8), Sanskar Bawache (14), Sanskruti Sandip Bawache (14), and six-month-old toddler Samarth Bawache.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of the deceased. “A number of devotees lost their lives after their vehicle fell into a well on a private farmland. It is tragic and heartbreaking,” Mr. Fadnavis said.
