Andhra Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh has announced that efforts will be made to establish a Telugu Bhavan in Mumbai as a dedicated centre for Telugu literary, cultural and community activities. He also assured full support for the promotion of the Telugu language and the development of the Mumbai Telugu Auditorium.

Addressing Telugu Cultural Celebrations–2026, jointly organised by the Mumbai Andhra Mahasabha and Gymkhana at Sion in Mumbai, Mr. Durgesh lauded the efforts of Telugu associations in preserving and promoting the language, traditions and cultural heritage among younger generations living outside the Telugu-speaking States.

Interacting with members of various Telugu organisations, he said their commitment to nurturing Telugu identity and passing on cultural values to future generations was commendable.

The Minister urged Telugu-speaking people across the country to remain connected to their roots and safeguard their linguistic and cultural heritage. He observed that despite the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Telugu-speaking people continue to be united by a shared language, culture and history.

Highlighting the importance of mother-tongue education, Mr. Durgesh said children should be encouraged to read, write and speak Telugu alongside Hindi and English. He noted that the Andhra Pradesh government had taken several steps to strengthen Telugu-medium education at the primary level.

The Minister also underscored the richness of Telugu literary traditions, particularly the enduring legacy of Padya Natakam (verse drama), and called for collective efforts to preserve and promote the art form.

Among those present were Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, singer Ghazal Srinivas, organisers of the Mumbai Andhra Mahasabha and Gymkhana, and members of the local Telugu community.
