ED notice will not derail State’s development plans, says Pinarayi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday (December 8) said attempts to obstruct the State’s development using Enforcement Directorate (ED) notices would not succeed, asserting that neither the government nor the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would be intimidated.

Inaugurating the LDF election rally at Stadium Corner in Kannur, he said those who issued notice may get temporary satisfaction, but it would not affect the State’s development agenda. He alleged that evil minds wishing to see the State destroyed were behind the notice issued against the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

Mr. Vijayan asserted the KIIFB had never engaged in a land transaction in the State, adding that land acquisition was carried out solely for infrastructure development. He said the KIIFB had provided ₹20,000 crore for land acquisition for seven major projects in Kerala, stressing that the land was not bought for commercial purposes. This included land acquisition for the national highway. Acquired land can only be used for the purpose for which it was taken, he said, adding that the KIIFB had not deviated from standards set by the Reserve Bank of India. Those targeting the agency believed that issuing a notice would “crush” it, he said.

Highlighting the government’s performance, the Chief Minister said that Kerala had an administration that fulfilled its election commitments. Of the 600 promises made in the 2016 LDF manifesto, 580 had been implemented, he noted. He said this was possible because the people allowed the LDF to continue in power.

On the Vizhinjam port, the Chief Minister said the State had spent ₹5,600 crore to complete the project.

He came down on the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre for declining the required financial aid and also preventing those who came forward to help the State.

Mr. Vijayan said the Kannur Corporation, governed by the United Democratic Front (UDF), had failed to implement many proposed works.
