ED notice in masala bond a result of CPI(M)-BJP nexus, alleges Adoor Prakash

United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Adoor Prakash has alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) notice to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac in the masala bond issue is the result of a “secret understanding” between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)].

He was speaking at the Vote Vibe-2025 election interaction programme organised by the Thrissur Press Club on Tuesday.

Mr. Prakash demanded that the Chief Minister clarify why land was purchased at an inflated price. “Where is the money? The KIIFB CEO and others should answer,” he added.

He said the voter fraud raised by Rahul Gandhi at the national level was something that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had been practising in Kerala for years. “When I contested from Attingal for the first time, the LDF added 1.14 lakh bogus votes. In 2024, they added another 50,000. When we complained, only the votes of deceased individuals were removed. Kerala has been a major hub for voter fraud,” he alleged.

‘Bid to sabotage probe’

Mr. Prakash further claimed that efforts were under way to sabotage the probe by the special investigation team (SIT) into the Sabarimala gold theft case involving CPI(M) leaders. Former Travancore Devaswom Board presidents A. Padmakumar and N. Vasu and several employees were already in jail. “We are waiting to see what action will be taken against them. No progress will be made until the elections are over,” he added.

He accused the government of attempting to remove the Sabarimala issue from public attention during the election season.

Responding to questions on the case involving Congress legislator Rahul Mamkootathil, Mr. Prakash said expert police officers should investigate the case. “It is the responsibility of the Home department led by the Chief Minister,” he said. He added that the party had taken all possible internal action.

“Even when I contested elections, the LDF registered false cases against me. Whether Mr. Mamkoottathil’s case is false or not is to be determined by the investigators,” he said. According to him, the government’s stance was to delay the arrest of Mr. Mamkootathil until the local body elections were over.
