ECI pushes Telangana SIR final roll to Nov. 9; notice phase, deadline for claims and objections extended

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the date of publication of final rolls pertaining to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, concomitantly extending the deadlines for the ongoing notice period and for filing of claims and objections by the electors.

The date for publication of SIR rolls has been moved from October 19 to November 9, while the notice phase and the disposal of claims and objections has been revised from October 15 to November 5. The deadline for filing claims and objections by the electors has been moved from September 16 to October 7.

The revised schedule follows a letter by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to the ECI, seeking extension of claims and objections period by four weeks, and flagging serious lapses in the process which could eliminate genuine voters from the rolls.

This is the second extension of the SIR process since it had started with enumeration phase on June 25 this year. Originally scheduled for October 1, the publication of final rolls was later moved to October 19, owing to slow progress of the process, before the fresh revision.
