Early morning rain disrupts life in Hyderabad on September 26; Cyberabad traffic police issue work-from-home advisory

Heavy rainfall in Hyderabad flooded low-lying areas disrupting traffic flow. Water logging was reported in Begumpet, Maitrivanam and other parts of the city. In Miyapur, pipeline road near the MHM railway under bridge was closed due to inundation. At Katedan, the Old Kurnool road railway underpass was flooded, with teams clearing clogged drains to restore flow.

Police and Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) teams deployed with dewatering pumps to speed up clearance at critical points.

The Cyberabad traffic police issued an advisory urging IT companies to allow employees to work from home on Friday (September 26, 2025) in view of heavy rains that lashed the city overnight and are forecast to continue through the day. The move is to ensure safety, productivity and uninterrupted emergency services and avoid traffic congestion.

Officials said persistent moderate to heavy spells are expected, with intermittent breaks, and the weather will remain overcast and gloomy.

A yellow alert is in place across the Cyberabad region for most of the day and night, with periods of orange alert anticipated during the morning and night hours. Rains are expected to cover nearly all areas of Cyberabad, raising the likelihood of waterlogging and slow traffic movement.

Traffic police have already reported several stretches affected by flooding. These include the stretch from the HCU depot near the University of Hyderabad towards Masjid Banda, Kothur underpass, on Prism Road in Gowlidoddi and at the start of the Shaikpet flyover.

Police have advised commuters to drive cautiously and expect delays in affected areas until the situation improves. The traffic control room is closely monitoring developments and Disaster Response Force teams remain on standby, the advisory said.
