The Telangana EAGLE Force, in coordination with the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police, has busted an inter-state drug trafficking network allegedly operating between Rajasthan and Hyderabad, arresting seven persons in two cases detected within 20 days and seizing 1.031 kg of opium and 25 grams of mephedrone (MD) worth about ₹12.65 lakh.
After two narcotics cases were registered at Miyapur and Saifabad police stations, the investigations revealed a supply chain involving Rajasthan-based suppliers, couriers, intermediaries, local peddlers, delivery agents and consumers in Hyderabad. According to Director of EAGLE Force, Sandeep Shandilya, the network used private buses, trains and private vehicles to transport drugs, while mobile phones and UPI transactions were used to coordinate supplies and payments.
The police said they intercepted 78 attempts by Rajasthan-linked drug networks to transport narcotics into Telangana since 2023. Opium, mephedrone and doda chura were among the substances commonly detected in these cases.
In the Miyapur case, the teams apprehended three persons linked to Rajasthan drugs network on August 7. They seized 1.031 kg of opium, valued at ₹5.15 lakh, and 18 grams of mephedrone, apart from mobile phones and other material.
The investigation revealed that Rajasthan-based Mahender Kumawath allegedly dispatched the consignment through Ram Prasad, a driver with MR Travels, to Bengaluru. Kumawath allegedly instructed his associate Madhu Ram to collect it and transport it to Hyderabad.
Madhu Ram, a 29-year-old Zomato delivery worker from Goshamahal, who originally hails from Rajasthan, allegedly collected the drugs in Bengaluru and brought them to Hyderabad. He then proceeded with an associate to Gokul Plots in Hafeezpet to deliver the consignment to Mahendra Patel, 36, a mobile accessories businessman residing in the area, police said. Another accused, Dharmendra, 38, who runs a glass business and lives in HMT Miyapur, was also arrested.
The police said the alleged trafficking operation was being carried out near Quantum Leap School. Investigators have identified Kumawath as a key supplier and said he and several others involved in the chain remain absconding.
In the second case, EAGLE Force and Saifabad police apprehended four Rajasthan natives near Parishram Bhawan while they allegedly arrived to deliver 7 grams of mephedrone to customers. The investigation has reportedly identified Harinder Devda of Jalore district in Rajasthan as the alleged kingpin supplying mephedrone to Hyderabad peddlers through his associates.
The police said several persons connected with the network were absconding. Investigators also found links to drug-peddling cases in Rajasthan, with Nagaur police arresting nine persons in a recent case and seizing 1.5 kg of opium. Their alleged links with persons associated with the same network are being examined.
According to the EAGLE Force, the investigations point to a recurring modus operandi in which Rajasthan-based suppliers source narcotics, send them to Telangana through buses, trains and private vehicles, and use couriers and intermediaries, including young persons, to establish local distribution networks.
The force said its investigations into Rajasthan-linked networks had also led to the detection and dismantling of two alleged mephedrone manufacturing facilities operated by a Rajasthan-based drug network. Another manufacturing facility at Abdullapurmet, allegedly linked to a person identified as Matyasagiri, was also detected.
