President Droupadi Murmu will make a landmark address in Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday (November 27, 2025), the first day of the Winter Session.

This will be the first such occasion when the President will address members of the Odisha Assembly. Elaborate arrangements have been made with all MLAs requested to be present for the address.

“This is a huge honour for us as the country’s first citizen will share her experience and insights with the lawmakers. She carries with her rich experiences of working as a lawmaker, Minister, governor and President,” said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling.

Mr. Mahaling said Ms. Murmu will be accorded a ceremonial reception when she enters the House.

Along with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Speaker Surama Padhy and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik are likely to be present to welcome Ms. Murmu.

The State Assembly has made special efforts to reminisce Ms. Murmu’s stint as MLA and Minister by decorating a chamber where she used to sit. She is likely to visit the chamber.

Ms. Murmu was first elected to the Odisha Assembly in 2000. She made it to the Council of Minister under the Chief Ministership of Mr. Patnaik. She was re-elected to the assembly in 2004.
