The Dravidian model of governance views technology as a tool for social uplift, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said at the fourth edition of UmagineTN.

Recalling that this event was started when the DMK came back to power, Mr. Stalin said Tamil Nadu was shifting from its traditional information technology services to high-tech development, start-ups, and innovation-driven economy. “Tamil Nadu is increasingly attracting advanced global capability centres (GCCs) and research and development (R&D) and artificial intelligence (AI) centres of multinational companies,” he said.

One of the key highlights of the event was the launch of Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Startup Policy 2025-26. A slew of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged in the presence of Mr. Stalin. The first one was with Better Compute Works Inc., entailing investments to the tune of ₹5,000 crore. EROS Gen AI (Immerso Innovation Venture Pvt Ltd) inked an MoU worth ₹4500 crore. Firms including WeLoadin Studio LLP (₹150 crore); Phantom Digital Effects Limited (₹100 crore); Rewin Health (₹50 crore) and Cube84 (₹20 crore) also exchanged MoUs on Thursday.

Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan pointed out how Tamil Nadu had taken efforts to set up StartupTN and iTNT hub, and went on to talk about the emerging sector seed fund and Tamil Nadu SC/ST start-up fund.
