The DMK’s seat-sharing committee on Friday held discussions with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India and the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK) at Anna Arivalayam, the party headquarters.

Speaking to reporters after the discussions, CPI (M) State secretary P. Shanmugam said a four-member delegation from his party had held talks with the DMK. The State committee had decided to contest additional seats. “We have expressed our wish to the DMK seat-sharing committee,” he said.

CPI State secretary M. Veerapandian said the first round of talks had concluded smoothly. The party will continue to hold further rounds of talks.

Mr. Shanmugam and Mr. Veerapandian said there was no communication from the DMK regarding reducing the number of seats allotted to existing alliance partners in 2021 to accommodate new allies.

The DMK also held talks with a five-member committee from the KMDK. The party general secretary E.R. Eswaran said the talks were cordial and the next round of talks would be held after the DMK delegation discusses the matter with Mr. Stalin.
