Telangana Government is actively considering an affordable housing policy envisaging the construction and sale of houses at prices lesser than market rates to middle class families.
10,000 houses on each location
The Government has identified four locations abutting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) for the purpose, and it is proposed to construct around 10,000 houses at each of these locations. “The Government is planning to take up the policy on a no-profit basis in the interests of middle class people,” the Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said addressing at a press conference in Hyderabad on Friday (December 5, 2025).
G+4 model houses for poorer section
A policy for providing houses to the poorer sections in G+4 model is also being worked out for poorer sections. The policy is aimed at ensuring that poorer sections are provided houses in the places they are presently living, without the need for relocating them. A new Indiramma Urban Housing Policy in this direction will be announced soon, he said.
The Minister said that the houses allotted by the previous Congress Governments at Kukatpally Housing Board were getting dilapidated due to the passage of time, and it was being contemplated to replace these houses by high-rise apartments. Steps were taken to complete the two-bedroom houses left incomplete by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government with an estimated ₹700 crore and all necessary amenities were provided to these colonies with ₹200 crore.
Measures were also initiated to resume lands taken on lease by the Housing Board and those that had been encroached upon. Construction of compound walls for such lands spread over 1,000 acres had been completed. The Minister recalled that the previous Government scrapped the Housing Board during its tenure and the Congress Government restored it with a view to provide housing to poorer sections. Required staff was allotted to the Board for its full-scale functioning and the Government was moving ahead in a planned manner to complete the housing projects.
The Government had sanctioned around four lakh houses under Indiramma Indlu scheme, of which construction works pertaining to three lakh houses were in different stages. The Government had decided to complete one lakh houses by March next and another two lakh houses would be ready by June.
