The idol of Goddess Padmavati Ammavaru was taken on a procession on ‘Muthyapu Pandiri Vahanam’, which had a pearl-studded canopy, around the Tiruchanur temple here on Wednesday (November 19), the third of the ongoing nine-day Kartheeka Brahmotsavams.

The pearls embedded on a length of satin cloth in deep blue background offered a splendid view to the devotees who gathered in large numbers to watch the procession. Having a glimpse of the idol nestled under the canopy of pearls is believed to remove one’s sins.

Tirumala Tirupati Pedda Jeeyangar and Chinna Jeeyangar, the senior and junior pontiffs respectively, led the procession, which also had Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, Joint EO V. Veerabrahmam and Deputy EO Harindranath.

In the evening, the idol was carried on a procession around the temple on ‘Simha Vahanam’, resembling a ferocious lion. While the goddess is generally considered as a bestower of prosperity, the idol seated on a lion during this procession is presented as a slayer of evil.
