Even as the diarrhoea caseload in Vuyyuru climbed to 19 on Sunday (August 23, 2026), the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Department issued a statement that the situation is currently under control.

Between August 19 and 23, 19 people were identified with severe diarrhoea symptoms in Wards 5, 7, and 9 of the municipality. Of these, 15 were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Vuyyuru, nine of them are under going treatment while six have been discharged. All of them are aged between 40 and 60.

According to the release, health condition of all the affected persons is stable. Following the directions of Minister of Health, Medical and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav, a State-level medical team visited the affected areas on Sunday and conducted a field-level assessment and submitted a preliminary report to the Minister.

A Rapid Response Team comprising specialists from the departments of Paediatrics, Microbiology, and Social and Preventive Medicine at Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada, also inspected the affected areas.

After reviewing the report, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu directed officials to continue monitoring until the situation is completely brought under control. A house-to-house survey by ASHAs and ANMs is also under way.

As earlier reported, residents have complained about water quality in the municipality. The officials have collected both water and stool samples, the reports of which are expected in a day or two.

The medical team has preliminarily assessed that contamination of a community drinking-water source may be a major factor, while consumption of outside food may also have contributed to the spread.

In coordination with the Vuyyuru municipality, officials have undertaken chlorination of drinking-water sources in the affected areas. Tankers have also been arranged to supply alternative drinking water to residents.
