Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Friday set a 48-hour deadline for the Karnataka government to disclose comprehensive details of the relief measures taken in the flood-hit districts of Kalyana Karnataka.
Addressing a press conference at the Janata Dal (Secular) State headquarters here, Mr. Gowda said the people reeling under floods cannot be left in uncertainty. “Relief must be implemented on a war-footing. In the next three to four days, I will visit the affected areas myself, by road wherever is possible. I will prepare a report to be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said, pointing out that if required he will also meet Mr. Modi.
The JD(S) supremo cautioned against politicising the calamity, and also flagged the State’s financial condition. “The financial condition of Karnataka has worsened due to the five guarantees, leaving the State without funds to tackle the severe flood situation,” he said.
