The students of government degree colleges on Friday staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office condemning the delay in appointing guest faculty members.
Under the banner of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP), the students assembled in front of the office, raising slogans against the State government for the delay in appointing the lecturers. For the last two months, many subjects had not been taught, leaving the students in a difficult situation. It seemed that they would be forced to appear for semester exams even without attending classes on certain subjects.
In a press release, the ABVP office-bearers said the 432 government degree colleges had been depending on the guest lecturers. The students had been denied quality education, and no faculty members to teach them.
They demanded the government fill up vacancies in the government degree colleges at the earliest and appoint those posses qualification as per the UGC guidelines.
The police stopped the protesters as they tried to enter the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde received their memorandum. Superintendent of Police Shivamogga G.K. Mithun Kumar and other officers were present.
Nandan M., secretary of ABVP’s Shivamoga city wing and others led the protest. A similar protest was held in Hassan city as well. The protesters staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city and submitted a memorandum to the district administration.
