The Vivek Nagar police on Wednesday arrested a 35-year-old construction labourer and his associate, a carpenter, for allegedly selling ganja on footpath.

Police seized 21 kg and 210 gm of ganja, valued at ₹21 lakh, and two mobile phones from the accused.

The arrested have been identified as Sanjit Bagh, 35, and Mithun Kambar, 25, both natives of Odisha.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said the arrests were made following credible information. The accused were selling ganja to customers on the footpath on the Viveknagar–Vannarpet road. Acting on a tip-off, the Viveknagar police conducted a search and allegedly caught the duo red-handed while they were attempting to sell drugs.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed that they procured ganja at a lower price from an unidentified person in Odisha and transported it to Bengaluru to sell at a higher price to customers.

Further investigation is under way to trace other persons involved in the case.

The operation was carried out after the Viveknagar Police grilled the consumers in and around the area to ascertain the source of the ganja they get, before zeroing in on the duo.
