Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy said government employees who perform their duties efficiently will be honoured with the ‘Best Service Award’ (Sarvottama Award), similar to how employees in private organisations receive incentives and bonuses for good performance.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Best Service Award presentation ceremony for 2023, organised jointly by the district administration and the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association, here on Wednesday. He presented the awards to ten government employees on the occasion.

Mr. Reddy said that recognising government employees with awards would motivate them to work with greater enthusiasm and commitment. With changing times, challenges in government service are also increasing, and employees must develop skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency in their work, he added.

He also urged the awardees to serve as role models for their colleagues and inspire them to achieve similar recognition.

Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Yukesh Kumar noted that employees of various departments play a crucial role in the development of a State or nation. Such employees must be recognised and honoured for their hard work, efficiency, integrity and dedication.

He noted that Mysuru district frequently hosts visits from the Chief Minister and other dignitaries, and appreciated officers and staff for working with alertness and ensuring smooth arrangements. The awardees, he said, should motivate other employees to strive for similar achievements.

Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association district president C.P. Arun Kumar said that encouragement is essential for better performance. He noted that the Civil Service Award for government employees was introduced in 2006.

Initially, only certificates were handed out, but since 2021, the award includes both a citation and a cash prize.

The Best Service Award, along with a cash prize of ₹25,000, was presented to ten employees, namely, B.J. Gururaj (assistant executive engineer, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam), Nazia Sultana (assistant labour commissioner), Yashoda N. (joint director, District Treasury), Rathi M.M. (senior nurse, Health Department), Chidambar S. (DVBDCO officer, Health Department), Madhusudhan S.M. (system analyst/NSS Officer, Department of Collegiate and Technical Education), Kumuda Sharath (joint director, Food Department), Chandrashekar (joint director, Agriculture Department), Roopa (nurse, Health Department), and Rudresh (deputy director, Horticulture Department).

Kannada and Culture Department assistant director M.D. Sudarshan, divisional vice-president of the Government Employees’ Association Malangi Suresh, Mysuru district branch working president Raghavendra P., State secretary Ganesh, vice-presidents Vishwanath and Pushpavathi, among others, were present.
