Dalit associations seek inquiry into attacks on SCs living near Bhogapuram

AP High Court advocate Y. Rama Chaitanya, North Andhra Ambedkarites Association president P. V. Ramana, Dalit Maha Sabha president of Vizianagaram district Gantana Apparao on Monday (January 19) asked Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy to order an investigation into the constant attacks on residents of SC colony in Munjeru of Bhogapuram mandal of the district.

Speaking to media here, Mr. Chaitanya said some influential people diverted drainage water directly into SC Colony after occupying lands meant for the free flow of drainage water. The government had not responded over the protests being organized by residents of SC colony for the last four weeks, he added.

Mr. Ramana said that the residents of the Scheduled Caste colony were affected by various diseases as they were being forced to live near drainage water which contaminated groundwater also in their vicinity. Reacting to the issue, Nellimarla MLA Lokam Madhavi said that she was trying to resolve the issue amicably with the construction of new drainage system for SC Colony. Meanwhile, the Collector who received petitions from different organisations directed local revenue and panchayat officials to submit a report over the conflict among the people with regard to drainage system.
