Strengthening coordination between banks and law enforcement agencies in cybercrime-related cases, particularly those involving mule accounts, digital frauds, freeze and defreeze procedures, and refund-related issues, was the key focus of the coordination meeting with bankers across the Cyberabad commissionerate on Friday, May 8.

The meeting brought together representatives from several public and private sector banks along with senior police officials.

Addressing the gathering, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh said cybercrime has emerged as one of the most serious threats facing society, with victims losing large sums of money through fake investment schemes, online scams, cryptocurrency frauds, pre-launch offers and fraudulent call centre operations.

He said cyber fraud losses in Cyberabad stood at ₹438 crore in 2025, while cases reported so far in 2026 had already resulted in losses of nearly ₹104 crore.

During the meeting, DCP Cyber Crimes T. Sai Manohar highlighted delays faced during investigations in obtaining account statements, KYC documents, freeze confirmations and other banking records necessary for prompt action.

Telangana Cyber security Bureau SP Sai Sri spoke on the National Crime Records Bureau cybercrime data and called for dedicated Cybercrime Response Desks in every bank, along with updated nodal officer details and backup staff for uninterrupted communication with police.

Banks were further advised to train branch-level staff on cybercrime procedures and provide relationship manager details for corporate accounts to help speed up investigations and coordination.

Police officials said better cooperation between banks and law enforcement agencies would help reduce delays in investigations, improve recovery efforts and strengthen customer protection measures.

Representatives from HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Bank of India, Telangana Grameena Bank, HDB Financial Services and Kotak Mahindra Bank attended the meeting along with senior Cyberabad police officers.
