The police questioned suspended IPS officer and Crime Investigation Department (CID) former Additional Director-General P.V. Sunil Kumar in connection with the alleged custodial torture of former Narsapuram Member of Parliament K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Vizianagaram district Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar questioned Mr. Sunil Kumar, the prime accused in the case, for more than four hours at Central Crime Station (CCS) in Guntur on Monday.

The CID police had arrested Mr. Ramakrishna Raju, then Narsapuram MP, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against then Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In 2024, Mr. Ramakrishna Raju registered a complaint with the Guntur police, alleging that the CID police had tortured him, used third degree in custody and even tried to murder him.

The police registered a case against the then Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr. Sunil Kumar and other officers.

The government constituted an SIT to probe the alleged custodial torture of Mr. Ramakrishna Raju. Then CID Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Paul was also arrested in the case.
