Crime in Guntur district fell by 13% in 2025, said Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal on Monday (December 29).
In all, 8,937 cases were registered in 2025 as against 10,252 in 2024, the SP said. Vigil has been enhanced on history-sheeters, gamblers, roosterfight organisers, ganja and drug peddlers in the district, Mr. Vakul Jindal said.
Speaking at a media conference at the Police Headquarters in Guntur, he said the police investigated cases such as gold theft in Mangalagiri Rural, Kollipara and Pattabhipuram and recovered the valuables, solved the murder of a transperson in Kolanukonda village and a digital arrest case in Kakumanu.
In all, 91 ganja cases were reported in Guntur district, and 403 peddlers and consumers were arrested and about 221 kg of ganja, 1.325 litres of liquid ganja and 506 grams of other drugs were seized from the accused, Mr. Vakul Jindal said.
“We are organising cordon and search in colonies in Guntur district to check ganja smuggling and consumption. Of the 1,458 history-sheeters, vigil has been stepped up on 955 criminals who are active,” the SP said.
“Police, in association with public representatives and NCC cadets, are conducting awareness programmes titled ‘Sankalpam’ in education institutions against drugs and ganja. We are enlightening students on the consequences of drug addiction,” Mr. Vakul Jindal explained.
Guntur District Task Force focused on lottery, gambling, thefts, sale of banned drugs in medical shops and prostitution. The PD Act was invoked against 11 criminals.
Under ‘Safe Campus Zone’, police searched shops and registered 1,297 cases under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COPTA) Act, 2003. The police imposed a fine of ₹1.98 lakh on the shop owners, Mr. Vakul Jindal said.
