The CPI(M) has demanded a comprehensive probe into the ‘controversial demolition of houses’ on 42 plots in JJ Nagar of Bhavanipuram of Vijayawada and compensation for the affected families.

A CPI(M) delegation, led by the party’s State secretary Ch. Babu Rao, visited the site on Thursday, interacted with the victims and assessed the scale of the damage.

The houseowners alleged that they had purchased the plots 20 years ago and proper registration was done. They obtained bank loans and constructed houses as part of the VMC plan.

They claimed that ‘fraudulent societies and manipulated court litigations’ were used to grab their land, and their houses were demolished to facilitate the land transfer of 2 acres and 17 cents belonging to 42 families.

Mr.  Babu Rao condemned the demolitions. “It is unjustifiable and immoral to destroy houses built with loans, despite a Supreme Court stay order valid until December 31,” he said and accused the previous YSRCP government of completing registration processes under pressure, and the current government of facilitating widespread land scams with the support of senior officials.

Mr. Babu Rao demanded immediate annulment of fraudulent society registrations, adequate compensation for the victims from those responsible for the demolitions, and government support for rebuilding their houses.

CPI(M) West City Secretary B. Satyababu, district committee member E.V. Narayana, city committee members K. Suribabu, G. Venkatravu, Md. Mastan, and Md. Rafi were among those visited the site.
