Sheikh Riyaz, accused in the murder of 42-year-old constable E. Pramod, was taken into police custody on Sunday (October 19) after he allegedly attempted to attack a man named Asif near Sarangapur under the limits of Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station.
According to a statement from the Nizamabad Police Commissioner’s Office, two people were injured in the scuffle before police personnel present at the scene responded swiftly and apprehended Riyaz. Both Riyaz and Asif were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy confirmed that Riyaz was nabbed on Sunday afternoon in Nizamabad and dismissed reports suggesting that there had been any exchange of fire during the arrest.
Riyaz was wanted in connection with the murder of Constable Pramod, who was stabbed to death while escorting him to a police station in Nizamabad on Saturday. Following the incident, the DGP had ordered a manhunt and directed the formation of special teams to trace and arrest the accused.
He had also instructed Multi Zone-I IGP Chandrasekhar Reddy to supervise the investigation and ensure full support to the constable’s family.
