The Congress on Sunday (August 9, 2026) asked NCP (SP) MPs, scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (August 10, 2026), to demand the immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act.
In a post on X, All India Congress Committee national secretary Sachin Sawant said, “It is understood that MPs from the NCP (SP) will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday regarding issues in Maharashtra. We request that they firmly convey to Mr. Modi the INDIA alliance’s resolute stance that the Women’s Reservation Bill, passed in 2023, must be implemented immediately and should not be linked to delimitation. The unity of the INDIA bloc and the Opposition must be made clear to the Prime Minister”
The meeting follows an announcement by NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Saturday (August 8, 2026) that a delegation of eight MPs would meet the Prime Minister on Monday (August 10, 2026) to address Maharashtra’s water crisis, farmer suicides, and challenges posed by rapid urbanisation.
Ms. Sule also said that MPs faced difficulties utilising their ₹5 crore development funds, claiming a lack of support from the State Government.
The NCP (SP) has also opposed the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, in its current form.
Ms. Sule said, “The NCP (SP) is opposed to the FCRA legislation in its present form. Our stand on the legislation is that the government should not take any hasty decision on such legislation”.
