A total of 3,674 journalists has been enrolled as members in the Journalist Welfare Board and funds to the tune of ₹8.56 lakh has been granted for the welfare of over 80 journalists so far, a release said

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday handed over orders for providing a monthly pension of ₹12,000 to 42 retired journalists. Minister M.P. Saminathan, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and senior officials were also present.

An official release said that funds from the Journalist Welfare Fund have been granted to benefit a total of 59 journalist families since the DMK government assumed office. It has also enhanced the sum granted from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to journalist families in case of death.

Since assuming office in May 2021, the State government has granted funds for the medical treatment of 16 journalists to the tune of ₹30.61 lakh. In July 2022, the funds towards medical treatment of journalists were enhanced from ₹2 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh, it said.

A total of 3,674 journalists has been enrolled as members in the Journalist Welfare Board and funds to the tune of ₹8.56 lakh has been granted for the welfare of over 80 journalists so far, the release said and listed out other measures for their benefit.
