Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will visit Osmania University (OU) on Wednesday for what is being described as a key interaction with students, faculty members and the alumni.

The visit carries symbolic weight, coinciding with the 16th anniversary of the announcement to carve out Telangana as a separate State, on December 9, 2009. It also comes at a crucial juncture, as the government steps up its focus on higher education reforms and campus infrastructure, with OU at the centre of these efforts.

Rightly so, Mr. Reddy will deliver his address from outside the entrance of the Arts College — the OU College of Arts and Social Sciences — a symbol and staging ground of the separate statehood movement led by students. On Tuesday, the premises were prepared with tents on both sides of the college entrance for attendees, with Mr. Reddy’s dais positioned under the trefoil arch and facing both sections.

His previous visit set in motion extensive work for officials and a high-powered committee tasked with developing a roadmap to transform OU into a world-class university. On August 25, he had said: “I will do anything and everything necessary for OU. This university embodies Telangana and is a testimony to its history; we must preserve it for posterity. You just make your developmental plans, and I will approve whatever it is.”

It was during that visit that the ₹1,000 crore development fund was announced.

According to officials, Mr. Reddy will begin his visit with a campus tour, including inspections of renovated hostels and the proposed digital learning hub. Announcements relating to faculty recruitment, expansion of postgraduate programmes, and stronger industry-academia collaboration may also be included in his address.

On the other hand, student unions and faculty associations are preparing to present detailed memoranda highlighting long pending issues such as library resources, improvements on campus, diet and hostel issues and enhanced safety measures. Contractual faculty are pressing for job regularisation and “equal pay for equal work”, among other grievances, for which they took out a rally on Monday.
