Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Saturday (March 7, 2026) that people would experience development when it reaches everywhere.

The government’s ‘Navakeralam’ initiative aims to ensure development for all, he said in his inaugural address after declaring the completion of the first phase of the tetrapod seawall construction in Chellanam panchayat. He also inaugurated the launch of the second phase of the project on the occasion.

He said the project had helped in bringing relief to the people of Chellanam impacted by sea erosion. The first phase of the project, covering a 7.3-km stretch from Chellanam to Puthenthode, was completed at a cost of ₹347 crore. Chellanam is the worst affected among the 10 hotspots facing sea erosion in Kerala, he added.

The second phase of the project aims at constructing a seawall along the 6.1-km stretch and is estimated to cost ₹404 crore, according to a release.
