Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has reiterated his Government’s commitment to create infrastructure for providing quality education and skills to students in the State run educational institutions making them readily employable in the competitive world.

The government is focused on improving the quality of education in the government institutions and has therefore initiated several steps to revive them for making them role models for the country. The government had earmarked 8.5% of the budget outlay of over ₹3 lakh crore amounting to ₹27,000 crore for education.

“Yet, doubts persist about the quality of education and the employability factor,” he said. The government had therefore constituted the Education Commission which made several recommendations for improving the sector. “We have decided to embark upon reconstruction of Telangana’s future with focus on quality education,” he said at a public meeting after formally inaugurating the Telangana Public School at Arutla in neighbouring Rangareddy district on Wednesday (June 17, 2026).

Three more public schools equipped with facilities on par with corporate institutions including one in Mr. Reddy’s village Vangur in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district were inaugurated simultaneously.

He explained how the government was trying to provide a special kit to students of the public schools comprising quality uniforms, bags and other items. But the Opposition parties, the BRS in particular, were unable to digest the developments taking place in the Congress rule.

“The tender for providing special kits is valued at ₹680 crore. But a leader, a former IPS officer, is alleging that there is ₹3,000 crore scandal in it,” he said in an indirect reference to BRS leader R.S. Praveen Kumar.

The Chief Minister utilised the public meeting as a platform to launch a tirade against the BRS claiming that the Opposition party was unable to digest the fact that the State government invited soccer legend Lionel Messi to the State to play football with SC/ST students. “He is not a drug lord nor is he responsible for damages to barrages. Why are they (the BRS leaders) criticising the government?” he asked advising the party to mend its ways failing which it would not even get the status of the Opposition party.

Mr. Reddy explained about the purpose behind the TPS and Young India Integrated Residential Schools claiming that the schools were aimed at eradicating social evil like untouchability by ensuring students of all communities studied together. “Schools were set up specifically for different communities in the past. The governments’ decision allowed continuation of caste barriers which have to be brought down,” he said.

He exhorted students to study in the government institutions which produced several illustrious personalities. “I have studied in a government school and became the Chief Minister. Former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao is also a student of government school. You can become leaders and get positions like the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister and leaders in your field if you can effectively utilise education as a tool,” he said.

Sports university aimed at securing Olympic gold medals

The Chief Minister said the TPS laid equal emphasis on promotion of sporting culture among students and facilities had accordingly been created in them. The government had set up a sports university aiming at securing gold medals in the Olympic games of 2034. “As a country of 1.4 billion people, we are unable to get a gold medal 75 years after Independence. Small countries like South Korea bags several medals and students of their sports university spread over 30 acres win 12 gold medals in the Olympics. We should be ashamed of this,” he said.
