Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday inaugurated the modernised Periyar Nagar library-cum-‘Mudhalvar Padaippagam,’ a co-working hub at Kolathur, developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) at a cost of ₹5.24 crore under the North Chennai Development Scheme.
According to an official press release, the modernised facility includes air-conditioned library halls, training rooms, 70,000 books, e-learning facilities, among other features. The Mudhalvar Padaippagam was first launched on November 4, 2024, at Jaganathan Street in Kolathur and has since received strong patronage from students and competitive exam aspirants.
Through ‘Mudhalvar Padaippagam,’ a total of 4,489 budding entrepreneurs, most of them women, have benefitted.
The CMDA is currently working to establish 27 ‘Mudhalvar Padaippagam’ across the city, in addition to the existing ones, the release said.
Sub-Registrar office
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed building for the Periyamedu Sub-Registrar Office built at a cost of ₹3.86 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for a new Peravallur Police Station, to be built on the Periyar Government Hospital campus at a cost of ₹68 lakh. He inspected the ongoing construction of the Kolathur Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Office and the Dialysis and Rehabilitation Centre at Jaganathan Street, being built at a cost of ₹11.37 crore and ₹11.74 crore respectively.
At the Secretariat in Chennai, various associations of government employees and teachers called on Mr. Stalin and thanked him for the State government’s announcement of a three-percentage-point hike in dearness allowance. The newly appointed chairperson and ex-officio members of the Fishermen Welfare Board also called on the Chief Minister.
