He launched phase II of the scheme to honour such devout Hindu couples with two sets of dhoti-shirts, saree-blouse, fruits, thamboolam, and holy items at an event at Vepery. A total of 3,000 couples were honoured on behalf of various temples throughout the State.

Last November, the Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin had launched phase I of the scheme that was announced in the Assembly in which 2,000 couples were honoured. In phase II, a total of 20,000 couples are to be honoured.

Minister for HR&CE P.K. Sekarbabu, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, Secretary HR&CE K. Manivasan, and heads of various religious mutts were present on the occasion, according to a press release.
