The Solapur Division of Central Railway conducted extensive cleanliness and awareness drives at major and minor stations across the division as part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 campaign, reaffirming its commitment to the Swachh Rail–Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

During the third and fourth days of the fortnight-long campaign, observed on October 3 and 4, intensive cleaning activities were carried out under the theme “Swachh Stations (Clean Stations)”.

Several stations covered

On October 3, a massive cleanliness drive was undertaken at key stations including Solapur, Kalaburagi, Wadi, Kurduvadi, Latur and Pandharpur. The drive focused on deep cleaning of platforms, toilets and drainage systems. Officials also inspected cleaning machinery, tools, plants and protective gear provided to sanitation workers to ensure their availability and proper functioning.

Twin-type dustbins were placed at major stations to enable segregation of wet and dry waste, along with further separation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable garbage. Carriage and Wagon (C&W) in-charges inspected water hydrant pipes to ensure proper maintenance and bracketing.

The following day, similar drives were extended to other stations across the division, including Arag, Kem, Nagansur, Dhawlas, Sangola, Salagare, Wakav, Malikpeth, Angar, Parewadi, Washimbe, Pophalaj, Jeur, Mohol, Boroti, Taj Sultanpur, Martur and Hirenanduru. Cleaning was carried out on platforms, tracks, offices, and station surroundings, and toilets were cleaned wherever available.

To promote environmental consciousness, regular announcements were made at major stations discouraging the use of single-use plastic and urging passengers to avoid littering and help keep railway premises clean.

Towards green energy

As part of the division’s sustainability initiatives, the Electrical Department inspected rooftop solar panels installed at various locations to ensure optimal functioning and undertook cleaning where required to enhance efficiency and power output.

While twin-type dustbins are placed at major stations for effective waste segregation, smaller stations have been equipped with single-type dustbins based on passenger traffic. Station Managers have been directed to ensure proper placement and maintenance of these bins.

“Through these continued efforts, the Solapur Division reiterated its commitment to maintaining clean, green, and passenger-friendly stations in alignment with the vision of Swachh Rail–Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” the Central Railway said in a release.
