In the view of the recent increase in road accidents under the Gajuwaka police station limits, the city traffic police have decided to implement strict preventive measures to enhance road safety and protect the lives of motorists and pedestrians.

The Gajuwaka police during a review of recent accidents found that the absence of cleaners in lorries was a significant contributing factor. In a majority of these cases, lorry drivers were unable to properly notice motorcycles and pedestrians travelling on the left side of their vehicles. Due to limited visibility and lack of assistance, drivers failed to detect smaller vehicles approaching from the left, resulting in three fatal road accidents in which three persons lost their lives in the last couple of weeks, according to the police.

Kurmannapalem Junction, Akkireddipalem Junction, Mindi Junction, Sheela Nagar and a few other roads have turned out to be dangerous for commuters, especially two-wheelers.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Gajuwaka police have made it mandatory for all lorry owners to appoint a cleaner for every lorry.

“The cleaner is expected to assist drivers in monitoring blind spots, especially on the left side, and to provide timely guidance to prevent accidents,”, said Inspector of Police, Traffic, Gajuwaka sub-division, Sheikh Hussain.

Lorry owners and transport companies are have been given time until the end of the month to comply with the directive. They are advised to make necessary arrangements immediately to ensure that every lorry is equipped with a cleaner while operating on the roads.

“In the next few days, strict enforcement will be carried out. If any lorry is found operating without a cleaner, legal action will be initiated against the concerned owner as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws,”, he said.
