WARANGAL

Civil society organisations have staged a protest at Ekashila Park in Hanmakonda on Sunday, demanding the merger of Hanamkonda and Warangal districts and develop the Warangal metropolis on a par with Hyderabad.

The agitation, led by former professor Kurapati Venkata Narayana, saw participation from Telangana Udyamakarula Vedika, Forum for Better Warangal, and several other associations.

Warangal West Congress MLA Naini Rajender Reddy expressed solidarity with the movement, stating that the government is sincere about correcting the ‘unscientific division’ of the erstwhile combined Warangal into multiple districts.

“The arbitrary bifurcation has fragmented Warangal city, causing confusion among people and officials and hindering development,” he said. The MLA assured that he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and work towards restoring Warangal’s former glory.

Other speakers criticised the previous BRS government for dividing Warangal for political and personal interests, alleging that promises of making Warangal the second capital were mere rhetoric. They urged the Congress government to honour public sentiment and prioritize the city’s development.

The protest highlighted the demand to integrate Kazipet, Hanamkonda, and Warangal into a unified district and transform the tri-city into a major urban hub. Leaders across political lines, including KUDA Chairman Enagala Venkataram Reddy, former Mayor T Rajeswara Rao and other participated in the protest.
