Chief Minister is the highest paid employee in the State

How much salary does the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy take home? His basic salary per month is  ₹411,000 according to the data detailed in the budget papers present on March 20, 2026. This is the first time the data about the Chief Minister’s salary has been disclosed. However, there were no details about the salary of other ministers. The other highly paid officials in the State government include Chief Justice: ₹250,000, Special Chief Secretary to Government: ₹250,000, and Chairman (TGAFWC) and various Commission chairpersons: ₹225,000. 

The biggest salary budget is that of the Education department whose strength is 143,356. A decade earlier in 2016-17, there were more personnel in the Education department 144,542. A dip of 1000 teaching personnel. In 2016-17, there were 47,860 school assistants drawing a salary in the pay grade of ₹28,940-₹78,910, while there were 58,995 secondary grade teachers in the pay grade of ₹21,230-₹63,010. In 2026-27 there are 56,875 secondary grade teachers where the pay grade has gone up to ₹31,040-92,050. Similarly, there are 52,744 school assistants in the pay grade of ₹31,040-92,050.

Police department is the second largest employer as a department with 98,497 personnel on the rolls. A major chunk being 17,893 in Hyderabad Commissionerate, 7837 in Malkajgiri and 7293 in Cyberabad Commissionerate. This shows a surge in the number of police personnel as there were only 76,693 personnel with 15,428 in Hyderabad Commissionerate and 6,028 in Cyberabad Commissionerate. A spike of over 28%.

The third largest employer was the Medical and Health-related departments with 69,387 employees on rolls. The bulk of the personnel are in the Medical Education department with 30,275 faculty and support staff. A decade earlier, the personnel in the Medical department was way lower at 47,901. An increase of 44% keeping pace with the expanded healthcare facilities in the State.

According to the 2026-27 budget papers, in the Police department, the largest category is 65,000 police constables drawing a salary in the paygrade of ₹24,280-72,850. There were 16,000 head constables in the pay grade of ₹31040-92050. In contrast in 2016-17 there were only 25,753 constables under various categories drawing a salary in the band of ₹16,400-₹49,870 while there were 6582 head constables in the pay bracket of ₹21,230-₹63,010.
