The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC), Mysuru, is set to strengthen power availability across its jurisdiction with major capacity additions under the KUSUM schemes and a series of infrastructure development works aimed at reducing losses and improving supply reliability.

Under the KUSUM-C scheme, steps have been initiated to generate 900 MW of power within the CESC limits. With electricity demand expected to rise during the summer months, around 600 MW of this capacity is likely to be added to the CESC grid by March, helping ease supply constraints.

Similarly, under the KUSUM-B scheme, nearly 6,000 farmers have benefited so far, with about 60 MW of power being made available to them from the grid, CESC managing director K.M. Munigopal Raju said while addressing the Republic Day celebrations at the CESC office on January 26.

He said several infrastructure development initiatives were also under way. CESC has obtained 22 sites from the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) for the construction of offices and stores, and acquired 10 sites for setting up new stations. In addition, around 100 to 120 new centres for new 11 kV lines are being established, expected to greatly reduce power leakage, interruptions, and technical losses.

Works worth ₹200 crore — pending for the last 10 to 15 years — have been completed within a short span to address long-standing power supply issues in Kodagu district and strengthen the overall distribution network. In Mysuru city, underground power cabling has been carried out, he added.

The managing director said CESC has also prepared Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to secure RDSS grants from the Union government. Once approved, 60% of the funding will be provided directly by the Centre. DPRs worth ₹150 crore include proposals to install SCADA-based auto changeover systems in Mysuru city to improve operational efficiency.

D.J. Diwakar, CESC technical director; Sharanaamma S. Jangin, chief general manager (Technical); G. Renuka, chief financial officer; Dr. B.R. Roopa, general manager (Administration and Human Resources); Savitha Hoogar, CESC vigilance wing SP; Umesh, Canara Bank regional manager and others were present.

Meanwhile, following the recent death of CESC employee T. Rahul in an electrical accident while on duty in the Hanur sub-division, the managing director distributed compensation cheques amounting to ₹1.06 crore to his family.
