J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday (September 29, 2025) said the Centre should not test the patience of people of J&K by denying them the promised status of Statehood.
“It doesn’t take time for a situation to grow grim. I do not want the blood of innocents to be spilled again. I am only for peaceful means. But the Centre should not test the patience of people. We do not want it to reach to the level witnessed in Ladakh,” Mr. Abdullah said, while demanding the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
He said restoring Statehood to J&K “is not a favour”. “Statehood is a fundamental right. It was promised by the Centre and the Supreme Court. We were told after the delimitation and Assembly elections, Statehood will follow. Statehood is a crucial measure to maintain stability,” the Chief Minister said.
He said changing the constitutional status does not automatically improve the lives of people. “It’s evident from the situation in Ladakh,” he added.
